Quick Trip Down Memory Lane

Here are some random older pictures.. I found them in an online photo album that I made back in November '05.

Crazy thought : Bonnie was just 5 months old at that time.

An Autumn Evening Spent on Horseback

The weather this evening was absolutely perfect. The air was crisp and fresh, there were a few wisps of cloud in the sky, there was a light breeze, and the temperature was in the low 60s. The sunset was gorgeous; the sky was a display of pinks and blues with a backdrop of deep purple West Texas mountains.

What better way to spend a perfect evening than from the back of a horse?

Four friends & I all went for a nice little trail ride down the road. The horses were definitely feeling good. The first cold snap of autumn tends to have a cleansing effect... on the air, on the horses, and even on us humans.

Bonnie was a bit frisky at first. If she could talk, she would have said, "Hey mom! Let's GO! LET'S GO!! This weather is for galloping and playing, not walking!" But as we rode along, she relaxed and smoothed out and softened up to both the bit and my legs. By the end of the ride, she was flexing nicely and listening to the bit rather than attempting to ignore it.

Now, I'm at John (my boyfriend)'s house, and he's cooking me dinner!! I must say, he is absolutely wonderful. In fact, I'm going to get off this computer & go spend some time with him!

Rainy Days in the Desert

It's been raining off and on for the past month; this dreary weather is starting to become a real annoyance. I'm tired of the mud. The arena resembles a small pond. According to weather.com, sunshine is in the forecast for the rest of the week (thank goodness).

Here are some pictures I took last Thursday when a few friends & I decided to turn our horses out to play together. It was a muddy mess!!

Stacy Westfall & Whizards Baby Doll

In a horsemanship clinic yesterday, we were talking about Stacy Westfall's bareback & bridleless run on Whizards Baby Doll at the '06 Quarter Horse Congress. This video clip is an amazing display of horsemanship; it truly represents the relationship a horse and rider should have.

Poor little man

Yesterday, we turned out our three 2008 foals together in the round pen. The paint is a filly named Sandi, the dark bay is a filly named Cindy, and the little sorrel is an orphaned colt named Bodey. I was having some fun with my older point-and-shoot camera & it's video-taking capabilities, so here is a video clip that I shot while the babies were having some fun :)

De Orpheo a Merlin de Rafi a Pablo

This horse is breathtaking, stunning, inspiring. If you haven't seen this video clip, I would highly recommend taking the time to watch it. The athleticism of this stallion makes world class cutting horses look like hoppy little bunny rabbits. Enjoy.

Clydesdales & Raindrops

Horses are my life.
I'm an Equine Science student at a smaller university in West Texas. I own an amazing 3 yr old Quarter Horse named Bonnie.

I've created this blog to tell the stories of my experiences here in the high Chihuahuan desert.

The story behind the title?
Well, it involves Bella the Clydesdale & her extreme dislike of raindrops. The other morning, I had turned Bella out to graze while we were finishing morning chores. I left the barn door open, so she could return to her stall whenever she felt the need to do so. I was busy cleaning the broodmares' stalls, and suddenly all hell broke loose. I heard rain on the roof, stallions whinnying, and the sound of a 1,600 pound Clydesdale galloping through the barn. I hurried over to Bella's stall, and sure enough, she was in there. She was milling about, wide-eyed, with an extremely worried expression on her face. I gave her some reassuring pats, and found a few small flecks of moisture on her back- the remnants of raindrops. After a few minutes, she settled & all was well in the barn. I learned my lesson - don't turn Bella out when there's a chance of rain.
