The Sul Ross NIRA Rodeo is this weekend! Rough stock arrived yesterday, and Cait & I drove out to the arena to snap some pictures of the bucking horses.
They're such gorgeous animals. Looking at them, you wouldn't know that they can seriously BUCK!

An Autumn Evening Spent on Horseback
The weather this evening was absolutely perfect. The air was crisp and fresh, there were a few wisps of cloud in the sky, there was a light breeze, and the temperature was in the low 60s. The sunset was gorgeous; the sky was a display of pinks and blues with a backdrop of deep purple West Texas mountains.
What better way to spend a perfect evening than from the back of a horse?
Four friends & I all went for a nice little trail ride down the road. The horses were definitely feeling good. The first cold snap of autumn tends to have a cleansing effect... on the air, on the horses, and even on us humans.
Bonnie was a bit frisky at first. If she could talk, she would have said, "Hey mom! Let's GO! LET'S GO!! This weather is for galloping and playing, not walking!" But as we rode along, she relaxed and smoothed out and softened up to both the bit and my legs. By the end of the ride, she was flexing nicely and listening to the bit rather than attempting to ignore it.
Now, I'm at John (my boyfriend)'s house, and he's cooking me dinner!! I must say, he is absolutely wonderful. In fact, I'm going to get off this computer & go spend some time with him!

Rainy Days in the Desert
It's been raining off and on for the past month; this dreary weather is starting to become a real annoyance. I'm tired of the mud. The arena resembles a small pond. According to weather.com, sunshine is in the forecast for the rest of the week (thank goodness).
Here are some pictures I took last Thursday when a few friends & I decided to turn our horses out to play together. It was a muddy mess!!

Stacy Westfall & Whizards Baby Doll
In a horsemanship clinic yesterday, we were talking about Stacy Westfall's bareback & bridleless run on Whizards Baby Doll at the '06 Quarter Horse Congress. This video clip is an amazing display of horsemanship; it truly represents the relationship a horse and rider should have.
